The news of national winners of the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Composers Competition was shared today by Shirley Erickson, national chair of the JCC. Here is her note announcing the news.
Dear North Central Region JCC students and teachers,
It is a joyful pleasure to announce the NFMC 2022 National winners in the Junior Composers Contest! Please read below for the announcement from JCC National Chairperson Joanie Pegram.
All of the entrants deserve our admiration for writing excellent compositions. I especially want to congratulate all of the students from the North Central Region who received a national award or were recognized for Honorable Mention:
CLASS 1 (age 9 and under)
1st Place: Qi Wu Wind Variations; 2nd Place: Vivian Luo The Magical Bird Lovella; Incentive Awards: Eleanor Klein Spring into Fall - "A Happy Time for All" and Sophia Yang Game of Chase; National Honorable Mention: Harlow Hagen [Wisconsin] The Witch's Cat (Jeffrey Miller, teacher) and Jaydin Li [Illinois] The Paper Crane (Angela Mitchell-Simonson).
CLASS 2 (age 10-12)

1st Place: Winston Schneider [Nebraska] Symphony in b-flat minor "Revelation" (Ken Meints, teacher); 2nd Place: Yunxi He Sylvan Valley; Pierson Award: Timothy Guillaume [Minnesota] Birds and Bugs (Randall Davidson, teacher); Incentive Awards: Vito Geraci 80th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, James Liang Melancholic Afternoon and Brannon Warn-Johnston Seascape; Honorable Mention: Robert Einhorn Fantasia in c-sharp minor.

1st Place: Elisa Johnson Young Embers; 2nd Place: Jonah Cohen Sounds of a Sightless World; Olga K. Nelson Award: Ian Peiris Waltz Fantasy for String Quartet; Outstanding Strings Award: Nathan Paek String Quartet No. 1 "The Redd Rocket Dreams;" Wilson Oustanding Piano Award: Albert Wang Piano Sonata No. 2 Movement 1; Incentive Awards: Frederick Biddle Overture on Christmas, Lucas Zaehringer [Iowa] American Dance (Richard Sessler, teacher), Madeline Cheng Forget Your Scarf in My Life and Joshua Shapiro Septet in B-flat Major; Honorable Mention: Avery Kim Winter Colors.
